Charles is a corporate finance partner with 30 years of experience. He works in the London office and leads the UK firm's Natural Resources Group as well as the UK firm's Equity Capital Markets team. He practises in equity capital markets and public and private mergers and acquisitions for clients in a variety of sectors. In particular he often advises clients with assets in developed and emerging markets, including Africa, China, Australia, Canada, India, North and South America, the UK, Russia and the CIS. He actively assists clients in developing their business using his wide international network of contacts in the sector.
Charles spent ten years, including one in Asia, as a corporate lawyer with a magic circle firm working for a diverse range of public and private corporates, before heading a leading equity capital markets and M&A team in the resources sector for eleven years, including four years at Gowlings, the Canadian international law firm prior to its combination with Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co.
He has acted as lead counsel for numerous companies and sponsors/nomads, advising on flotations on the London and Toronto exchanges, and also on secondary fundraises, public and private M&A, joint ventures and farm-ins. These include acting on recent matters involving companies in the energy, renewables and resources sectors such as Bushveld Minerals, Bacanora Minerals, Hummingbird Resources, Afritin Mining, Eurasia Mining, Horizonte Minerals, Cornish Lithium, Phoenix Copper, PetroTal, Max Petroleum, Tethys Petroleum, Orca Petroleum and Canadian Overseas Petroleum.
He is named as one of the four leading mining lawyers in England in the most recent International Who's Who of Mining Lawyers. Charles is also ranked by Chambers and Partners in the Capital Markets: AIM and Energy & Natural Resources: Mining: International practice areas.
